Key Takeaways

  • Importers applying for a SINOSURE trade credit limit don’t have full control over the process: The supplier in China files the application, while SINOSURE reviews it and makes a decision. A SINOSURE consultant can coordinate this three-party process, maximizing the odds of a positive outcome.

  • The process of collecting corporate, financial and trade information, and ensuring the supplier properly submits an application to SINOSURE has many potential pitfalls. The importer can leverage a trade finance consultant’s experience to avoid obstacles or address them as efficiently as possible when they occur.

  • Importers may not be fully aware of SINOSURE’s standards, or their Chinese supplier’s situation, both of which are key factors in a trade credit limit application. A trade finance consultant can shape a strategy that reduces friction with the supplier and puts the importer’s best foot forward when applying to SINOSURE

The Reality of DIY vs. Professional SINOSURE Support

While it’s theoretically possible for an importer to secure a trade credit limit using in-house resources, Axton Global’s expertise can help make the process more efficient and shape an application that maximizes the odds of a positive outcome. Here’s how the two approaches compare:

Why SINOSURE Applications Can Become Difficult for Importers, and How Axton Global Can Help

There are numerous points in the process of applying for a SINOSURE trade credit limit where the importer may face complications, which result in unnecessary delays, or a lower-than-desired credit limit, or an outright rejection.

Many of these problems stem from the fact that the information and responsibilities involved are spread across three parties: the supplier in China, the importer, and SINOSURE itself.

Below, we list the most common pitfalls faced by importers in this process, followed by an explanation of how Axton Global can help address all of them.

The Problem: The Importer Does Not Control the Supplier-Side Applications

As the actual policyholder, the supplier in China is responsible for submitting the buyer’s credit-limit request to SINOSURE. This sets up a process where the importer sends information and documentation about their business to the supplier, who in turn hands this over to SINOSURE as part of the formal application.

There are many potential pitfalls here. The importer is reliant on the supplier to enter information correctly, submit a complete application, monitor the application’s progress and communicate with SINOSURE when additional action is required.
The supplier may:
  • misunderstand what is required
  • provide incomplete or inaccurate buyer information;
  • delay submission or follow-up;
  • fail to communicate additional requests;
  • lack experience with the importer’s particular transaction.

This means that the importer must coordinate closely with the supplier, and may face problems even when being fully prepared for a SINOSURE application.

The Solution: Seamless Chinese Supplier Coordination

Axton Global will act as the technical bridge between the importer-client and the supplier in China, and will work to ensure that the supplier’s application on behalf of the importer is accurate, complete, and properly submitted.

Axton will communicate with the supplier to ensure that the supplier clearly understands what is required, and provide the supplier with necessary information if they lack experience with the sort of transaction in question.

The consultant will also follow up when there are delays, to ascertain what the specific problem may be (supplier inaction, failure to communicate follow-up requests from SINOSURE, etc.).

The Problem: SINOSURE May Have an Incomplete Picture of Your Company, Resulting in Delays, Rejections or Low Credit Limits

The Solution: Buyer Information and Credit-Assessment Preparation; Strategic Support Through the Application Process

Axton Global will guide how to package financial documents and corporate and trade data to present the strongest possible case to SINOSURE.

In case of a delay, a rejection, or a low credit limit issued by SINOSURE, Axton Global will assess the situation to determine the necessary next steps. The consultant will:
  • identify where the process has stalled;
  • determine which party needs to act;
  • help prepare or clarify the required information;
  • coordinate follow-up with the Chinese supplier.

The Problem: The Requested Credit Limit Must Match the Real Transaction

The maximum trade credit limit that SINOSURE will offer is capped by the importer’s annual turnover. If an importer’s turnover is $1 million, they are unlikely to land a $300,000 trade credit limit – even if a deal of that size has been negotiated with the supplier.

However, even in cases where the order in question is a small percentage of the importer’s turnover, SINOSURE will assign a credit limit that is proportionate to that order. If an importer requests a $2 million limit, but SINOSURE is provided with documentation of an order for $500,000, it will set a limit closer to $500,000, not $2 million.

The Solution: Comprehensive Buyer Situation Review

Before beginning the application process, Axton Global will audit the importer’s existing data. This will enable the consultant to determine the appropriate trade credit limit to apply for, and to gather the necessary documentation to support the application.
The audit process can also identify any potential red flags that could cause delays or a rejection.

Why SINOSURE Applications Can Become Difficult for Importers, and How Axton Global Can Help

The single largest benefit of engaging Axton Global to secure a SINOSURE trade credit limit is the ability for an importer to scale operations by taking advantage of deferred payment terms from a supplier.
To ensure that this is optimized, Axton Global goes beyond helping with an initial SINOSURE application, and can help with requests for additional limits, onboarding new suppliers with SINOSURE, and advising on non-standard transaction structures.
